Urban Development Group Meeting: European Urban Agenda
WHEN: 23rd and 24th March 2010
WHO: Technical representatives of relevant ministries in charge of urban development in the 27 Member States and Candidate States, European institutions (DG REGIO, Committee of the Regions, EEA-European Environment Agency, EIB-European Investment Bank, EESC, etc) and other associations and relevant stakeholders (CEMR-Council of European Municipalities and Regions, EUROCITIES, ACE-European Council of Architects, ECTP, URBAN-NET, EUKN, etc..) and experts on urban development issues in Europe.
PROGRAM/CONTENT: This is a preparatory meeting for the agenda and content of the Meeting of Directors General in charge of Urban Development to be held in April 28th, preparatory, in turn, of the Urban Development session (June 22nd) of the Informal Ministerial Meeting on Housing and Urban Development (21st and 22nd June). The issues of work will focus on the European Urban Agenda: the Reference Framework for the European Sustainable City, the implementation of the Leipzig Charter, the continuity of EUKN European Urban Knowledge Network, and so on. The main topic of discussion that the Spanish presidency wants to introduce will be "integrated urban regeneration", presented as the core of the strategy for the future of urban development in Europe, capable of promoting urban sustainability from three perspectives -economic, environmental and social-, and to contribute -at the same time- to the reactivation of the economy and employment, as well as to fight against climate change.
