The next meeting of the Committee on Regional Development will take place on Wednesday, 17 March from 15:00 to 18:30 and on Thursday, 18 March from 09:00 to 12:30 in the meeting room JAN 4Q2.

Highlights:
Transparency in the regional policy and its funding
Michail Tremopoulos (Verts/ALE) is a rapporteur of an initiative report on "Transparency in the regional policy and its funding". The rapporteur is going to present his draft report to the REGI Committee on 17 March. The aim of this report is to evaluate the implementation of information and communication measures foreseen in the Council Regulation No. 1083/2006 in the framework of the European Transparency Initiative, as well as transparency of audit and financial control activities regarding Structural Funds.
Implementation report by Lambert van Nistelrooij (PPE)
"Report on the implementation of the synergies of research and innovation earmarked funds in Regulation (EC) No 1080/2006 concerning the European Fund of Regional Development and the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Development in cities and regions as well as in the Member States and the Union" is the title of an initiative report prepared by Lambert van Nistelrooij. Following the exchange of views on the working document, which took place in January, the rapporteur will present his draft report to the REGI Members on 18 March.
Fighting the financial and economic crisis with a special reference to Objective 2
At the next REGI meeting in March, Rodi Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou (PPE) will present her draft initiative report on "Contribution of EU regional policy towards fighting the financial and economic crisis, with a special reference to Objective 2". This report occupies a central position in the debate on the economic recovery of the regions.
