Voorzitter van het Comité van de Regio's, Mercedes Bresso heeft vandaag, 29 juni, samen met de hoofden van de Europese netwerken van lokale en regionale overheden, een overleg met Commissievoorzitter José Manuel Barroso en commissarissen Johannes Hahn (Regionaal beleid), Maroš Šefčovič (Inter-institutionele relaties en administratie) en Michel Barnier (Interne markt en diensten).
Met voorzitter Barroso zal gediscussieerd worden over de posities van regio's en lokale besturen rond de belangrijke Europese vraagstukken. In bilaterale overlegmomenten met de commissarissen zal Mercedes Bresso de thema's "toekomst van het cohesiebeleid", "financiële regulering en EU2020 strategie". Local and regional interests will take centre stage at the European Commission this week: Committee of the Regions President Mercedes Bresso and the leaders of European associations will meet Commission President José Manuel Barroso on Tuesday, 29 June. President Bresso will then discuss future cooperation with Commissioners Johannes Hahn, Maroš Šefčovič and Michel Barnier.
This Tuesday, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso will discuss the position of regions and cities on key EU issues with Mercedes Bresso, President of the Committee of the Regions and the European Association of Elected Representatives of Mountain Regions (AEM). They will be joined by the Presidents of European associations representing local and regional authorities: Marcelino Iglesias Ricou, President of the Conference of European regions with legislative power (REGLEG); Karl-Heinz Lambertz, President of the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR); Giovanni Kessler, President of the Conference of European Regional Legislative Assemblies (CALRE); Wolfgang Schuster, Vice-President of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR); Michèle Sabban, President of the Assembly of European Regions (AER); Claudio Martini, President of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR); and Lars Weiss, Vice-President of EUROCITIES.

CoR President Bresso and the association Presidents will debrief media representatives on the meeting with President Barroso in an informal press point on Tuesday, 29 June, 15.00, on the esplanade of the Berlaymont building, Rue de la Loi 200, Brussels. To flesh out future cooperation with the EU executive in greater detail, CoR President Bresso will then hold bilateral meetings with three Commissioners: On Tuesday, President Bresso will debate the future of cohesion funding with Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Regional Policy, and will emphasise the CoR's strong stance on financial regulation and the Europe 2020 strategy in a meeting with Michel Barnier, responsible for Internal Market and Services. On Wednesday, the CoR President will discuss common priorities for the coming years with Maroš Šefčovič, Commissioner for Inter-Institutional Relations and Administration.
