Fusion for Energy: Activities related to the design of the ITER Neutral Beam Remote Handling System (deadline: 22/1/2010)

Inhoud & doelstellingen:
General Background and Needs of the Joint Undertaking
The European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy, (hereinafter "Fusion for Energy" or "F4E" or "the Joint Undertaking") is a joint undertaking created under the Euratom Treaty by a decision of the Council of the European Union1. It provides the contribution of Euratom to the ITER international fusion organisation, e.g. with regard to scientific and technological research and development activities.

In order to pursue the above objectives and in compliance with its defined scope, F4E intends to initiate a grant agreement with one or more beneficiaries, to which this Call for Proposals refers.

This Call for Proposals concerns the conceptual design activities to be carried out for the ITER Neutral Beam Remote Handling system (NB RH). The NB RH consists of a series of devices, i.e. a 50 tons monorail crane and its lifting frames, a force-feedback manipulator arm, special tooling for lip-seals, pipes and electrical connectors, special handling devices for Diagnostic plugs etc. in order to perform remote substitution of components that are part of the NB injectors and the upper diagnostic plugs still located in the NB cell. These design tasks should be performed starting from the current layout of the NB cell and based on the results of the previous NB RH design task performed so far.

The main objectives of the activities under the present Grant are:
1. to review, extend and complete the maintenance requirements of all the components located in the NB cell (NB injectors, diagnostic plugs and auxiliary components like mezzanine floor panels, passive magnetic shield etc.)
2. to review, extend and complete the conceptual design of the set of RH devices identified so far, and to extend and complete the NB RH system design in order to cover all the above requirements.

Budget:
Maximum Indicative Fusion for Energy's Contribution: € 320,000.00 (Three Hundred Twenty Thousand)

According to the Model Grant Agreement2 the financial contribution of the Joint Undertaking may reach a maximum of:
a) 40% of the total eligible costs for research and technological development activities
b) 40% of the total eligible costs for demonstration activities
c) 100% of the total eligible costs for management activities
d) 100% of the total eligible costs for other specific activities.

The maximum pre-financing normally considered for the present action(s) is 30% of the total F4E contribution. Applicants wishing to request a larger pre-financing share shall detail the motivation in their proposal, and may be required to lodge suitable financial guarantee for the pre-financing before receiving the first payment.
