A roundtable discussion on a report by The Royal Society, ‘Reaping the Benefits, Science and the sustainable intensification of global agriculture’
The report argues that producing enough food for the increasing global population must be done in the face of changing consumption patterns, the impacts of climate change and the growing scarcity of water and land. It discusses the need for a sustainable intensification' of global agriculture in which yields are increased without adverse environmental impact and without the cultivation of more land. The report will be presented by Professor Sir David Baulcombe, Fellow of the Royal Society, Chair of the Study’s Working Group (University of Cambridge), followed by the policy perspective given by Timothy Hall, Head of the Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Aquaculture Unit at DG Research of the European Commission and Mr. Tony Pexton, Chairman of Sustainable Arable LINK & NIAB Board, and member of the National Farmer’s Union (NFU).
The debate will chaired by Piotr Nowinsky, The Centre.
