Seminar on Financial Inclusion and Over-Indebtedness - Brussel - 14 september 2010

Het Vlaams-Europees verbindingsagentschap (vleva), het kantoor van Noord-Oost Engeland in Brussel en EuroHealthNet organiseren, in het kader van de Social Inclusion Regional Group (SIRG), een seminarie rond financiële inclusie en schuldbemiddeling.

Het seminarie “Balancing Acts - Tackling Financial Exclusion through balanced policy measures and initiatives involving individuals, communities and public institutions” vindt plaats op 14 september 2010 van 09.30u tot 17.00u, te Brussel. 
Deelname is gratis en lunch wordt voorzien.

De SIRG is een samenwerkingsverband van een tiental regio’s dat gedurende het Europees jaar van de bestrijding van armoede en sociale exclusie tal van events organiseert rond onderwerpen zoals kinderarmoede, sociale huisvesting, etc.
De SIRG is een officiële partner van de taakgroep van het Europese jaar bij de Europese Commissie.
Alle aanbevelingen en beste praktijken die we tijdens onze conferenties verzamelen zullen worden gebundeld in een boekje en worden overhandigd aan de taakgroep als hulpmiddel voor een toekomstig beleid.

Maak kennis met theatergroep “Shontal” dat een stuk zal opvoeren over financiële problemen en schulden, kom luisteren naar debatten over de toekomst van financiële inclusie en schuldbemiddeling in Europa, leer van andere regio’s door een uitwisseling van beste praktijken en laat je stem horen in interactieve sessies.

De financiële crisis deed het aantal mensen met schulden hoog oplopen. Hoe kunnen lokale en regionale actoren, gesteund door de Europese instellingen en andere organisaties bijdragen tot een vermindering van het aantal mensen in financiële moeilijkheden?

The Liaison agency Flanders-Europe (vleva), North East England Brussels Office and EuroHealthNet are organising a Seminar on Financial Exclusion and Over-Indebtedness: "Balancing Act: Tackling Financial Exclusion through balanced policies and measures involving individuals,

Having to take a loan so your children can have Christmas...Not understanding what terms like interest rate mean...
Not being able to stick to your budget...Being refused an affordable credit rating...Being refused access to a basic
bank account."

That is the reality of financial exclusion, the reality that we will discuss during our seminar on the 14 September 2010
from 9.30 to 17.00 at the premises of the Flanders-Europe Liaison Agency situated at Kortenberglaan 71, Brussels
in the Schuman quarters. 
Alongside dramatic performances, and presentations of best-practice, participants will be given an opportunity to discuss
recommendations aimed at improving our service response to those who face financial exclusion.

This event is brought to you by the 2010 Social Inclusion Regional Group co-chairs Flanders Europe Liaison Agency and North
East England Office in Brussels.
The 2010 Social Inclusion Regional Group is a transnational coalition of local and regional actors keen to respond
proactively to the opportunities of the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.
It has established 5 thematic working groups, one of which is the Working Group on Financial Exclusion and Over-Indebtedness.
The Working Group benefits from a previous track record, prior to the Social Inclusion Regional Group’s launch, North East England and Flanders collaborated together to deliver 2 separate events looking at the pro-active role that could be taken by local and regional actors to support measures to tackle financial exclusion.
The first event discussed the role that financial exclusion played in social inclusion, and the second event looked at the state of the art with regards to research on the prevalence of financial exclusion.
